Snow #2

Two weeks after our big snow, we were lucky enough to get another beautiful snowfall (2.12-2.13 2014).  This one was perfect.  People were prepared, snow fell (4-6") and the next day it was gone!  Exactly how I like it.

Luna, unfortunately missed out this go around.  However, Phoenix had a BLAST!

I mean, this kid did NOT want to come inside.  EVER.  He loves the snow.  We also made snow ice cream, which was a fun, mess free activity!

Double FAIL

Yesterday, yes Valentine's Day of all days, Phoenix started acting real clinging.  At 8:30 in the morning he came to me and said, "Mama, hold you.  I lay my head on your shoulder.  I take a nap."  I immediately knew something wasn't right.  He NEVER admits to being ready for a nap.  NEVER.

So, he napped.  He woke burning hot.  I took his temp and it was somewhere in the 102's.  Gave him motrin and cuddled him on the couch for the better part of the day.  He ran a fever off and on for the remainder of the day, even with motrin and a luke warm bath.  His temp got almost to 104 at times.

He woke around 12:30 or 1:00.  Still running a fever.  After more medicine and extra cuddles, he fell asleep again.  He woke with a temp of 100.00 around 7:00.  I carefully watched it during the morning.  He was acting much more energetic than yesterday, so I chalked it up to a fever virus.

We went over to my parents for breakfast, since Jason was working.  He started dragging again and his eyes were looking weak.  I told my parents I'd be back.  I ran home to change clothes (thankfully, we only live 2.5 miles from each other).  I decided to call the doctor.  He now had an appointment at 10:45.

I ran back to my parents, got him and we left.  Sissy stayed behind, thankfully.  We waited over an hour before seeing the doctor.  They did run strep and flu tests (he weighed in at 31lbs).  Thankfully, the flu test was negative.

FAIL #1.  The strep wasn't.  This is our third round of strep since September.  I spoke to the doctor about this.  She said that ENT's no longer recommend having tonsils out at this age like they used to.  Usually 6 within a reasonable time would warrant more attention.

I then voiced my concerns about his constant complaints of his head hurting.  Its soo hard to know if he's really in pain or if he hears me complain about mine so much it just comes out of his mouth too.  However, its been going on for a few months now (I've already mentioned it twice to the doctors in the past) so I wanted answers.  She was fabulous.  She recommend me chart his complaints.  Said likely from the strep, but could also be his eyes.  So, we did an eye exam as well.

FAIL #2.  He completely bombed his eye test.  The chart used was at the level of a K and since he's only 2 1/2, she wasn't convinced he failed because of his eyes.  3 years can really make a difference.  However, when I held the sheet and asked him what the objects were, he knew them all.  Obviously, it wasn't because of his lack of shapes.  So because of this she ran a few more simple tests.

We ended the appointment with, "We'll schedule him an eye appointment and get back to you."  So not only did we leave with strep, we also left with possible eye "issues" as well.

My poor buddy.  I just want him to be all better.

*I promise Neena and Nancy, we are going to make it to visit.....SOMETIME :(.

5 months of....SOMETHING

I have no idea how to describe the last five months of our lives.  Luna has been such an unpredictable kid.  A real pain in the A!%, if you want me to be totally honest.  She goes from being a great sleeper to waking every 4 hours.  From being happy and laughing, to hysterically crying in the blink of an eye.  From cuddling to stiffening in an instant.  You just never know what you're going to get from her.  Its VERY frustrating!!!!

She is cute though, so I tend to overlook it.  Well, most of the time :)!!!!

Lets see:
-we had our first ear infection (right ear) on February 3.
-at that visit you weighed in at 16.6lbs.
-you've rolled once from back to stomach(Feb. 11) (not during the night, of course)!
-still sleeping on your stomach and wake each and EVERY time you roll over.
-sitting up pretty good.
-likes your johnny jumper and bumbo, but only for like 10 minutes at a time.
-LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your brother.  He can make you stop crying when no one else can!
-wearing size 3 diapers
-size 9mth clothing (for the most part)
-cooing, laughing and "talking" all the time
-love your tongue (sticking it out, blowing bubbles and spitting)
-still enjoy your car seat but prefer to be out of it when we are out.  you are very nosy indeed!
-love bath time and play time in Brother's room.
-you are becoming more human and less infanty (which, I am loving)!
-you are still VERY attention demanding.  Thankfully, you have a new interest in toys.
-grabbing, holding and reaching for objects.
-happiest right when you wake up
-hold your legs up when having your teezo changed.  You love having a clean teezo.
-respond when your name is called
-constantly sucking/eating your hands and fingers
-drooling like a fool
-enjoy laying in your rock 'n play watching t.v..  Finding Nemo is by far your favorite.
-love toys that vibrate
-hate wearing shoes
-you start "jumping," smiling, and laughing anytime you see your Dada
-you like your feet
-you are still enjoying the boobster, but I truly feel you are wanting to eat real food.  one more month.
-you will stare down an ICEE cup like no other.  you also enjoy holding it.
-your eyes are still greenish/gray.  your left (i think it is) is a tad darker with hints of brown in some areas.

You have definitely put us to the test, thats for sure!  We have a love/hate relationship with how different you are from your brother.  You are definitely you're own kid, thats for sure!

Regardless, we love you to the Moon and Back and wouldn't trade or change you for the world (can you tell today has been a good day for us :))!!!!

Who Says its sNOw Fun....

Being snowed in for days????  Okay, I'm sure many people in Alabama after what happened last week.   We were fortunate enough to be home, all of us except Jason, that is.  Jenn-Jenn came by for a surprise visit that morning.  Which, looking back was a blessing because we likely would've ventured out for a car ride (since thats about all the getting out we do these days).

Jason called from Pelham to tell me it was snowing.  The three of us ran to the window and sure enough, snow was falling.  It was beautiful.  Its was the kind of snow I love.  Falling from the sky and then disappearing.  Or so we thought.

We quickly noticed that EVERY car that tried going up my street was rolling back down, just as fast.  I got P dressed and let him go outside for a minute since Sissy was napping and well, it doesn't snow here that often.  So yes, even though he was sick, he got to play.  Some rules just have to be broken.

I stayed in touch with Jason as the snow began falling harder.  Schools were closing so he decided to help get children home.  He spent hours driving parents to kids and driving kids home from the elementary school.  Unfortunately for Jenn-Jenn, she wasn't going anywhere.  I've never been more glad to have a home phone than I was that day.  Cell phones were impossible to get thru on.

After making sure all of our friends kids were safely home, he came by to get her so she could get home to watch the 12 kids that were now stranded at her house.  He then proceeded to drive around helping anyone and everyone who needed it.  Him, Danny and James.

P and I ventured out a time or two more, once with Sissy too.  She couldn't not play in her first snow fall.  That would just be wrong.

Jason didn't get back home until way after dark, and bedtime.  I was sad he didn't come home to play with P, but knew he was doing the right thing.  It was just soo hard trying to explain to a 2 year old that his daddy was needed elsewhere when all he kept saying was he wanted to play in the snow with Dada.  My heart hurt for my son.  Call it selfish.  Call it what you want.  But it did.  And I let Jason know it (of course, I let him do his helping first).  All P needed was 30 minutes of play in the snow time with his Dada.  Apparently that was too much to ask for.  Again, call it selfish but its truly how I felt.  I know he was doing what he had to do.  I am proud of him for risking his safety to help others.  I wouldn't have had it any other way, especially before we had kids.  But his kid wanted to experience this with his Dada.  30 minutes was all I was asking.  Well, P was asking.  In hindsight, part of me feels bad for being mad.  However, part of me doesn't.  Soo many mixed emotions.

It all worked out though because first thing the next morning we were out playing in the snow.  Dada and all!  We had a fun day in and out of playing.  Phoenix made snow angel after snow angel.  He had snow ball fights with his Dada, built a snowman, sledded and even played a little soccer in the snow.

Such wonderful memories were made.

Some photos from Jason's day of rescuing:

My heart truly hurt for ALL the people on the roadways.  Those that couldn't get to their kids at school.  Those that were stranded with not enough clothing.  Those that were pregnant.  I can't imagine what I would've done if we (the kids and I) were out there in it.  Even worse, what if I had a kid at school that I couldn't get to???? The strength of people amazes me, cause Lord knows, I would've gone crazy had our scenario been different.  Looking at these pictures proves just how strong people really are.

Doctor, Doctor!

Luna has been sick the last few days.  She has the awful cough, the runny nose and constantly sneezing mess.  Saturday she started running a fever, her first.  She also managed to throw up several times.  Dirty diapers are happening almost every 30 minutes.  I'm talking full blow outs where a change of clothes is necessary.  Its nasty.  Phoenix had it the week before, also running a fever, so I just assumed he passed it on.  He's ALWAYS soo great about sharing his stuff with his Sissy :).

Needless to say, this has left us with many sleepless nights.  Saturday night being the worse.  She was inconsolable and I was desperate.  Finally, around 4:30 in the morning I threw her in the car and went for a drive.  We went to the gas station where I got an ICEE.  Unfortunately, Starbucks doesn't open until 6:30 on Sunday or I would've headed straight there.  I needed something to keep my butt awake.  She finally fell asleep driving around but as soon as we got home, she was up screaming again.   It was hopeless.

Sunday she was better.  We went to Church Saturday night (before all the throwing up and fever started), so we were able to stay in on Sunday morning.  We went over to my parent's house for Super Bowl.  I definitely needed the break.  We had fun and both kids seemed to be doing a little better.

Sunday night Phoenix woke up in the middle of the night screaming bloody murder.  I mean, screaming like he did when he burned his hand.  It was awful.  I knew something was really wrong.  He kept saying the inside of his ear hurt.  Luna didn't have a great night either.  Needless to say, I called the doctor at 8:30, exactly when they opened, and scheduled an appointment for BOTH of them.

The appointment was for 11:30.  Thankfully, Jason was able to go with me.  I needed help.  After examining both kids, it was apparent the Ears were the issue.  Both of them have pretty bad right ear infections.  This is Phoenix's (weight 31lbs) 3rd since tubes (ironically enough all in the same ear in which the tube hasn't fallen out of) and Luna's (weight 16.6lbs) 1st.  My poor babies :(.

We opted for the rocephin shot for Phoenix.  In the past, it has been the only thing that has helped him and seeing that he is allergic to just about every medicine in the books, we thought it was the best route.  It was rough.  He screamed and cried.  Its not an easy shot.  Not easy whatsoever.  The needle is as long as my pinky-no exaggeration.  We also got another prescription of ciprodex for him as well.  He slept better last night then he has in a while.  Even sleeping in until 6:30!!!

Luna hasn't been on med's other than her reflux, so we chose to try amoxicillion with her.  Hoping she doesn't have a reaction to it like her brother.  We gave her a dose yesterday afternoon.  She kept it down for about 3 hours.  Then puked up every bit of it and then some.  I tried putting it with some milk in a bottle last night, but she wanted nothing to do with it.  We are still trying to figure out how to get the medicine in her.  We also got numbing drops for her.  Apparently, they are helping.  She went to bed at 8:00, slept until 5:30, ate and is still sleeping.  Poor girl hasn't slept in days, so I wouldn't be surprised if thats all she does today.

As a Mom, its always soo tough deciding when its time to take them to the doctor.  I try to wait a fever out 3 days before calling and runny noses, cough, etc. I wait out as long as possible too.  I mean, really, what can they do for them????  Sometimes this bites me in the butt though.  Like this time, when something more was wrong.  I hate that Luna was in pain for who knows how long before I took her in, but I just never know when the time is right.

Phoenix is doing great this morning.  He said his leg doesn't hurt anymore and his ear is all better.  Luna must be doing well too since she's still sleeping.  Maybe we are finally over the hump and can start leaving the house again soon.  I feel like we haven't been out in over a month between sicknesses, concussion, and weather.  WE NEED OUT!!!!!
